Preventative Dentistry
Early preventative dentistry lays the foundation for good oral hygiene. At Smile Squad, we use preventative dentistry in order to:
- Empower children with knowledge about oral health and encourage them to take ownership of their oral health
- Prevent cavities and gum disease
- Give necessary insight on what to anticipate as your child grows
- Catch small issues before they turn into bigger, more worrisome problems
Smile Squad offers check-ups and cleanings, radiographs, fluoride treatments, and sealants during preventative visits.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children should start seeing the dentist by age 1.
Comprehensive Exam

During the exam, we evaluate your child’s oral health and analyze their growth and development. These routine visits provide oral health guidance and information tailored to your child.
Thorough Cleaning

During the cleaning, we remove stains, debris, plaque, and tartar to leave your child’s smile as shiny as possible. We will polish and floss all the teeth and demonstrate proper cleaning techniques. These routine cleanings help maintain oral health.
Digital X-rays

Radiographs – or x-rays – help us to see things we cannot visualize using only our eyes. Using digital technology, we quickly and easily take only the necessary x-rays to properly evaluate your child’s dental status.
Fluoride Treatment

To help remineralize and strengthen your child’s teeth, we apply fluoride varnish 2-3 times a year. These “tooth vitamins” are a safe and effective way to help prevent cavities.
Sealants

Sealants are a fast and easy way to protect teeth. We apply a thin layer of tooth-colored protective material onto the deep grooves of teeth. This helps to stop food particles, bacteria, and acid from causing cavities.
Space Maintainers

Sometimes a tooth is lost earlier than it should be. In some cases, a space maintainer will help prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting and crowding. The space maintainer will save room for your child’s adult teeth to come in properly.
